Online Gambling A Winner in Britain
Ever since online gambling hit our computer screens in 1995, the industry has grown from strength to strength as more and more gamblers from all over the world choose to
gamble online.
It is estimated the industry is worth an estimated $10 billion a year and is projected to grow by up to 25% per annum. This is
great news for online gamblers in the United Kingdom, as they have the distinction of living in the one of the few countries in the world where online gambling is not illegal.
This means that British online gamblers are having a 'field day' as they experience the joys of choosing from
thousands of top online casinos and playing in Dollar, Pounds or Euros. In terms of gambling breakdown, around 45% of the total British online gambling spend is attributed to sports betting and 35% to
online casino and online poker room gambling.
Explained UK-based analyst, Andrew Lee, 'January 2005 saw an online poker room going public on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) in a listing
worth over $5.7 billion. This was one of the biggest share listings in the past 3 years and is a good indication of things to come.
'I foresee that the larger online gambling businesses will eventually form huge conglomerates in order to control the bulk of this highly
lucrative and constantly growing industry,' he said.
